What is Moore College Sunday?
Moore College Sunday is a day when we partner with local churches to invite people to pray for the College, its work, the churches it serves and its students, graduates, staff and faculty, and ask people to get involved in the College community. When Moore College has a need, we know that the most important thing to do is pray. For over a century, God’s people have been praying for the college, and when they’ve prayed, God is never slow in answering.
Our college, which continually grows and expands to nurture more and more men and women seeking to grow in Christ, is built on the prayers of people like you. Join the generations of God’s people who have carried every one of Moore’s needs to the throne of grace and partner with us on Moore College Sunday. Moore College Sunday is officially held annually on the first Sunday of August – Sunday 1 August 2021. If you can’t hold Moore College Sunday on 1 August at your church or gathering, that’s OK. We value your prayers and support of our College, and will have resources available for the rest of the year!
Principal's welcome
From its very beginnings Moore College has been committed to strengthening the churches through preparing students for a ministry of the word in a variety of contexts. The relationship between the College and the churches has been mutually beneficial. The College has benefitted from the prayers and financial support of Christian men and women in the churches, but it has also been the churches who have encouraged godly potential ministers of the gospel to enrol in the College. The churches have benefitted from generation after generation of faithful graduates of the College who teach Christ’s word faithfully, love his people self-sacrificially, reach out to his world with a message of salvation and hope. We treasure each other and the opportunities we gave to participate in Christ’s mission to the world.
For 165 years the College has sought to prepare those who study here with a rich knowledge of the Scriptures, deep convictions about the way God saves people and the centrality of the cross of Jesus, and a commitment to humble, gracious godly living which adorns the message they take to the world. None of that can be done on our own. At every point, we are dependent upon our heavenly Father. We need him to keep us on track and to provide the resources we need to do this work in a way which honours him. In response to the prayers of God’s people, he has provided us with gifted and godly teachers, faithful and skilled administrators, and gospel-focused, clear-thinking and very able governors. He has provided us with the buildings we have needed at each point in our history and he has directed us in critical decisions about what we teach, how we teach it and the context in which the teaching takes place. We have very great reasons to thank God for his provision for the College. Our testimony is that God has been wonderfully faithful.
This year, as the pandemic continues, we have seen many fresh signs of God’s goodness and faithfulness. A large first-year cohort has been an encouragement to all. The government’s decision to admit the College as a University College, recognising the quality of the work the College has been doing for many years in its diploma, degree and research programs. The generosity of God’s people and the gatherings of women and men to pray for the College and its needs are signs of his continued blessing.
The Sydney lockdown has largely occurred during the winter break and we are hoping there will be minimal disruption to the College programs in the second half of the year. Will you join us in prayer on Moore College Sunday for those who are currently studying and those who will come to study with us next year? Will you pray with us that the Lord of the harvest will raise up many labourers who will work in the mission fields of Sydney, regional Australia and the world? We are very grateful for your support in this.
