“2020 -The year that God forgot”. Last week this was a headline for an article in one of the national papers

On the back of drought, bushfires, floods… a disease with no cure yet and no vaccine – that threatens us all and preys on the elderly and vulnerable.
接著旱災，山火，水災…我們現面臨一種沒有治愈且沒有疫苗的疾病，威脅著我們所有人，並威脅著老年人和弱勢群體。
Where is God now? 神在哪呢？
Where is God? Where is this all powerful, all loving God – while the world is scared and dying?
神在哪裏？當世人在恐懼和垂死中時，這位充滿能力和愛心的神到底在哪裡？
There is so much anxiety, worry, tension around the world at the moment… and we can’t escape it… it is just not possible any more to put your head in the sand, and pretend that life will go on as normal.
目前，世界各地都充滿焦慮，擔憂和緊張…我們無法逃脫…只是再也無法裝作甚麼都不知道，並假裝繼續正常生活。
None of us has ever lived through a time like this.
我們沒有一個人經歷過這樣的時代。
There have always been plagues and viruses. There are outbreaks of bubonic plague and ebola going on right now too – those things have never been eradicated – they are just a long way from us. We can know about them… but while-ever they’re a long way off, we don’t feel the weight of them.
其實瘟疫和病毒常常都會有。但现在就像是同時爆发了鼠疫和埃博拉病毒…那些事情根本從未根除…它們只好像離我們很遠。我們知道它們是甚麽…但就是因離我們很遠，我們從來沒有感覺到它們的威力。
But Covid-19 is here amongst us… it is very close to home… this is not some abstract reality that we might choose to think about or not. We can’t escape it.
但是Covid-19就在我們中間…它跟我們很近…這不是我們可以選擇去思考與否的的抽象問題。現在是我們都不能逃避的事情。
That’s the thing about death and the fear of death – it is always there… but from time to time it draws close and it is real and visceral and raw and overwhelming when it comes close…
這就是關於死亡和對死亡的恐懼…這些東西一直都在…但是它有時會跟我們很接近，它接近時都是真而實在的，這些真實接近的感覺令人不知所措。
And in the middle of all this, where is God?
在這一切當中， 神在哪裏呢？
Where is God? Where is this all powerful, all loving God – while the world is scared and dying?
神在哪裏？當世界在恐懼和垂死中時，這強大而又充滿愛心的上帝在哪裡？
If he was here, surely he wouldn’t let this go on.
如果祂在這裡，肯定不會讓這種情況繼續下去。
If only he was here… wouldn’t things be different?

So what? 那又怎樣
If only he was here. That’s just what Martha and Mary said when their brother Lazarus died. When tragedy struck in the little backwater village of Bethany, 3ks outside of Jerusalem, 2000 years ago… that’s just what they said, only they were talking to Jesus.
假如祂在這裏。這就是和馬大和馬利亞在她們的弟弟拉撒路死後所說的話。在兩千多年以前，這悲劇發生在一個比較落後的叫伯大尼的村莊， 距離耶路撒冷三公里…那時她們就是這麼說的，只是她們真的是跟耶穌在對話。

Lazarus is dead… and in the middle of the grief & pain… where was Jesus?
拉撒路死了…在這悲傷和痛苦中…耶穌在哪裏呢？

- … and the crowd (37), this bloke “who opened the eyes of the blind – couldn’t he have kept this man from dying”

Where was Jesus? 耶穌在哪裏？
He was 4 days too late. Lazarus’ body is already rotting and smelling.
祂來晚了4天。拉撒路的身體已經腐爛和發臭了。
And Jesus was 4 days too late.
而耶穌就是來晚了四天
If only Jesus was here – he could’ve kept Lazarus alive… he could’ve spared us this grief and heart-ache…
如果耶穌在這裡，他本可以讓拉撒路活著…他本可以讓我們免於這種悲痛和心痛…
So why wasn’t he there? How did it come to this, that Jesus’ friend, Lazarus was dead?
那他為什麼不在呢？是怎麼變成這樣的？ 那個耶穌的朋友拉撒路為甚麼會死了呢？
What’s the point? 重點是什麼？
As we dig into the background of this story, we realise that Jesus was (10:40) back across the other side of the Jordan river, about 150ks, or 4 days walk away Bethany which was right next door to Jerusalem.
當我們深入探討這個故事的背景時，我們發現耶穌（10:40）若要回到約旦河的另一邊，所需大約150 公里的路程 ，或要步行4天才可到達耶路撒冷隔壁的伯大尼。
So a messenger gets to Jesus with the news that Lazarus is sick… but by the time Jesus’ starts walking back he’s already dead.
因此當使者把拉撒路生病的消息告訴耶穌的時候，就算耶穌當時馬上回去，他也已經死了。
What seems to make it worse, is that Jesus didn’t go back straight away. He waited another two days. Now to be clear, even if Jesus had left straight away, Lazarus would’ve still been dead two days before he got there, so delaying wouldn’t have made any difference to that.
似乎更糟的，是耶穌沒有馬上回去。他等了兩天。現在清楚了，即使耶穌馬上回去，拉撒路在耶穌到達那裏的前兩天仍然會死，所以耶穌延遲回去也不會有甚麼分別。
Why delay? 為什麼延遲呢？
But, why does Jesus delay? We could guess.
但是，為什麼耶穌會延遲呢？ 我們可以猜測一下。
The last time he was around Jerusalem a crowd wanted to stone him to death… that would make me slow down and think for a bit before rushing back. Have a look at verse 8 or 16, that is absolutely what was on the minds of the disciples – going back anywhere near Jerusalem wouldn’t just be risking Jesus’ life but theirs too.
他上一次在耶路撒冷附近時，有一群人拿石頭打祂，想把他殺死…現在讓我們說下去之前，慢慢回想一下。看看第8或16節，這絕對是門徒們的想法…如果他們回到耶路撒冷附近的任何地方，不僅會對耶穌的生命有危險，而且對門徒的生命都會有危險。
God’s revelation will be clearer 神的啟示會更清楚
But that’s not the reason Jesus delays. He tells them the reason. The extra two days will mean that what happens next will be even clearer. In verse 4 it will make the glory or revelation of God’s glory in Jesus even clearer – there will now be no mistaking what happens, so that in verse 15, those following Jesus would believe in him.
但這不是耶穌延遲的原因。祂告訴門徒延遲的原因。額外的兩天意味著接下來發生的事情將更加清晰。在第4節中提到，這事情將使神在耶穌裡的榮耀或啟示更加清晰…現在將不會發生任何錯誤，所以在第15節中說，好叫跟隨耶穌的人都會相信他。
Now, spoiler alert, this day is going to turn out pretty well for Lazarus… and it is going to turn out pretty well for Mary and Martha and for everyone who was grieving as well… but not just, and even not mostly for the reasons they thought.

That you might believe 你可能會相信
Jesus explains that everything that happens here is for
耶穌解釋說這裡發生的一切都是為了
- In verse 15, the benefit of the disciples, that they might believe,
- and in verse 42 it is for the benefit of the people standing around, that they might believe.
- And John (20:31) told us that he picked this as one of the few things he would write down, so that anyone who read it “might also believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you might have life in his name.”

It is all about life. This bit of history was written down, not just to tell you about some bloke 2000 years ago who was brought back to life… but so that you might have life.
一切都與生命有關。這一段歷史被寫下來，不只是告訴你有些人在兩千多年前能起死回生，而是你也會有這樣的生命。
Why the two day wait? To make it clearer.
為什麼要等兩天呢？讓我們看清一下。
By the time Jesus got to the tomb, there could be no doubt.
到那時耶穌會到達墳墓, 這是毫無疑問的。
Jews of the day believed that a person’s spirit might hover around the body for up to three days after death… but things happen to a body after four days. Without going into the details… obvious things… smelly things happen after four days, and nobody can be in any doubt at all that he’d just slowed his heartrate down and controlled his breathing or something.
當時的猶太人相信一個人的靈魂在死亡後三天內仍會徘徊在身體的周圍…但是第四天之後身體就會發生變化。就算不用詳細描述…明顯地…四天之後屍體會發臭，沒有人會認為他只是放慢了心跳和控制了呼吸等等。
And nobody can be in any doubt at all, that when he does come back to life, it is only God who could’ve done that – Jesus’ claims to be the Messiah, the Son of God must be true.
同時，沒有人會懷疑只有神才能讓他復活…耶穌自稱是彌賽亞，是上帝的兒子，此話必定是真實的。
And when Martha hears Jesus is on the way and runs out to meet him… she actually already knows it. In fact, her understanding of life and death and who Jesus is, was all squared away before he got there.
Listen in to their conversation.
當馬大知到耶穌在趕去見拉撒路時，她實際上已經知道了。事實上，她對生與死的理解以致於對耶穌的認識，在耶穌到達那裏之前，她都已經清楚了。聽聽他們的對話：

Do you hear, her understanding… her belief was all in place before Jesus did anything else? She is still grieving… still in pain… but she believes, and she is even sure of life after death herself.
你聽得到嗎？在耶穌做任何事情之前，她的理解是…她的信，就已經存在。馬大還在傷心…還在痛苦中…但是她相信，甚至她自己也可以肯定她死後會得重生。
She seems to immediately get what Jesus said… even if someone like me takes a while to catch on. Did you catch it?
她似乎立即明白了耶穌所說的話…即使我也需要一段時間才能理解。你能理解嗎？
The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.
信我的人雖然死了，也必復活； 凡活著信我的人必永遠不死。
The believer lives – I can get that, but does the believer die… or never die?
我能理解想信祂的人會活著，但甚麼是信祂的人死了…也永遠不死？
This is really important to get straight if you want to understand what God does and does not promise you in the face of Coronavirus, or any other threat – and there have been some pretty stupid claims made by some Christians in the media over the last week or so about what God has promised them.
你要很清楚對於你在面對冠狀病毒時，神的回應和不回應，又或是其他的威脅…在過去的一週，一些基督徒在媒體上發表了一些相當愚蠢的說法，稱上帝應許了他們。
Jesus drops one of his famous “I am” statements here. “I am the Resurrection and the Life.”
耶穌在這裏作出祂著名的「我是」陳述。「復活在我，生命也在我。」
And while that is one statement… it’s actually about two different things. Resurrection and Life naturally go together, but they are not the same thing.
雖然這是一個陳述，它實際上是兩個不同的東西。復活和生命好像自然地走在一起，但它們其實不是同一回事。
That Jesus is the resurrection, means that whoever believes in him will live, even though they die. The resurrection means that there will be life beyond death, and Jesus is saying here that if you believe him, if you trust him, you will have that future resurrection – and live.
復活在我（我是復活）…凡活著信我的人必永遠不死。復活的意思是人在死亡之後還會有生命。耶穌在這裏說明，如果你相信祂，你在將來會有復活， 還有永生。
That Jesus is the Life, means that whoever lives as a believer in him, will never die. That is, that the moment you become a believer in Jesus, you have a new life… and new kind of life… eternal life through your trust in Jesus… and that even death will not snuff out this life.
生命也在我（我是生命）…意思是凡活著信祂的人，比永遠不死。就是說，就在你相信耶穌的那一刻，你已經有新的生命， 一個全新的生命。靠著相信耶穌你可以有永生，甚至死亡也不能扼殺這個生命。
So, there is no great promise that if you trust in Jesus you won’t die physically. Statistically Christians die at the same rate as everyone else – 100%.
因此，耶穌沒有應許信祂的人不會免去肉體的死。從統計學上來說，基督徒與非基督徒的死亡率百分之一百是一樣的。
But, Jesus is the resurrection and the life.
但是，耶穌是復活與生命。
- Through trusting in him we can know that we will be raised after death, to live beyond the grave.
- 通過相信他，可以知道我們將在死後復活，我們的生命超出墳墓之外。
- Through trusting in him, we get to begin a new life now, that is truly living… and that even death can’t stop.
- 通過相信他，我們可以開始新的生命，這是真正的活著，連死亡也不可以停止的生命。
Yes… but… 是的…但是
I know you might be thinking to yourself right now… well yes, that all sounds well and good to you – but how do you know that it’s not just wishful thinking?
我知道你現在可能對你自己說…是的，這一切對你來說都好像很好…但是你怎麼知道這不是不切實際的想法？
Or you might be thinking to yourself that’s all pie in the sky when you die stuff – doesn’t Jesus care about us here and now?
或者你會覺得死亡這些事情離你太遙遠，難道耶穌不在此時此刻關心我們嗎？
And that’s why what happens next is so important.
這就是為什麼接下來發生的事情會如此重要。
Jesus comes alongside Mary and the other mourners and they go to the tomb.
耶穌伴隨著馬利亞和其他哀悼者們去了拉撒路的墳墓。

Jesus, was deeply moved and troubled… and he wept. And it would be easy to think that what was going on inside him, and his weeping was just the same as those around him.
耶穌心裏悲嘆，又甚憂愁…之後，耶穌哭了。其實很容易想到他內心正在想甚麼，他哭泣的原因應該與他周圍的人一樣。
But Jesus’ grief is different… and is for different reasons.
但是耶穌的悲傷是不同的…並且出於不同的原因。
He’d already known for at least 6 days that he was going to bring Lazarus back to life – and that happy moment has almost arrived.
他至少六天前已經知道要讓拉撒路復活了…而那個快樂的時刻快到了。
But his deep movement in the spirit, is actually more like anger… rage… frustration… grief, not at a physical death which was about to be reversed… but at the state of the world… and the unbelief all around him.
但是祂此刻靈性上深深被打動的，更實際是憤怒…發怒…懊惱…沮喪…悲傷，不是因為祂即將會將肉體的死亡逆轉，而是對於整個世界的狀態…和周圍不相信祂的人。
He weeps, here, like he will again shortly as he looks over the city of Jerusalem… at the sight of a broken world. A world where sickness, and death, and grief, and hope-lessness, … and greed, and selfishness, and hoarding toilet paper, and faithlessness are all around and in the air we breathe.
耶穌哭了，在此，就像祂即將看到耶路撒冷…看到破碎的世界。一個疾病，死亡，悲傷，絕望的世界…人們的貪婪和自私，就像現在的人囤積廁紙，沒有信心的充斥在我們所呼吸的空氣中。
And in that moment,
在那一刻
- surrounded by the grief of those who lived as if there was no hope – although he had come to bring that hope himself –
- 世人被生活中的悲傷所包圍…彷彿沒有希望…儘管祂的到來是為世人帶來希望。
- He, the Resurrection and the Life, who had been driven out of the city by an angry mob the last time he was here and would be finally arrested and executed just a week or so later…
- 祂，就是復活與生命， 之前被憤怒的群眾趕出的城市，就是祂在一星期之後被捉拿和處死的地方…
In that moment, outrage at sin and death and rejection welled up inside of him and grieved him to the core.
在那一刻，對罪惡，死亡和對世人拒絕的憤怒完全刺進了祂的心，使祂心痛。
And finally they roll the stone away… and Jesus shouts “Lazarus, come out!”
最後他們把石頭挪開…耶穌大聲呼叫說：「拉撒路，出來！」
And the dead man walked out… alive!
那死了的人就出來了…他是活著的的出來！！！
And that’s how we know that this is not just wishful thinking… and that’s how we know that Jesus cares so much more deeply for us, than we know.
這就讓我們知道這不是我們不切實際的想法，這也讓我們知道耶穌是多麼的關心我們的需要，祂知道我們的需要比我們自己知道的更多和更深。
What’s next 下一步應該怎樣呢？
So, what do you do with all that?
那麼，你會怎麼回應這一切呢？
Remember that although this was obviously a pretty good day for Lazarus, Jesus said that it actually all happened for the benefit of those who saw and heard these things – so that they might believe in him and have life.
請記得，儘管對於拉撒路來說這顯然是很好的一天，耶穌說，這一切實際上都是為了那些看到和聽到這些事情的人而做的…這樣他們才能相信祂並得著生命。
And John wrote all this down, for the benefit of those who would read and hear, that they might believe and have life in Jesus’ name.

So, let me ask, do you? 所以，我想問問，你呢？
Do you believe in Jesus? Do you trust him?

If maybe you’re thinking… that’s alright for you, but you don’t know about my life… I’ve never had anything to do with God… you don’t know what I’ve done and thought… and I could never be good enough for God… – I want to just ask you – do you think it’ll be harder for Jesus to give you new life, than it was for him to do it for Lazarus?

We, all of us, are dead in our rebellion against God – but listen up – Jesus is the one who calls out – and dead people stand up and live. Are you ready to stand up and live? Don’t trust me. Trust him. Trust Jesus, and live.
我們所有人都要死， 因為我們都背叛了神。但請聽清楚，耶穌是那位作呼召的，叫死人起來並活著。你預備好起來並活著了嗎？不要相信我。相信祂。相信耶穌，並活過來。
If you do believe, you do trust Jesus, you need to remember that Jesus is the Resurrection – and whatever else changes or happens in the weeks ahead, you can be sure that you will be raised to life after death yourself.
如果你相信，你確實相信耶穌的話，你要記住耶穌就是復活…無論你之後的人生會發生什麼事或遇到什麼樣的變化，你都可以確定自己會在死後復活。
You need to remember that Jesus is the Life – and that your new life in him started the moment you trusted, and will never end. You’ll have the best that this life has to offer – life to the full – but your life in him is not under threat by Coronavirus or anything else. Rest confident in Him.
你也要記得耶穌就是生命…你新生命的開始就在於相信祂的那一刻，直到永遠也不會結束。你將會有這一生中最好的機會…有圓滿的人生…但你在祂裡面的人生並不受到冠狀病毒或其他任何的威脅。信心滿滿的在祂裏面休息。
The closing 總結
Friends, I know we are living in anxious times, and I fully expect that things are going to get worse before they get better… and that many of us will suffer enormous grief… and some of us will face the reality of death ourselves.
朋友們，我知道我們生活在焦慮的時代，我完全估計得到事情會在變好之前會變得更糟…而且我們當中有些人將遭受巨大的悲傷…我們當中有些人亦可能要面對死亡的現實。
But we are not hope-less.
但是我們並非絕望。
And having hope makes all the difference.
而當我們充滿希望時，一切都會不一樣。
All of us are anxious. If you don’t have a hope that lasts beyond the grave – that anxiety will become fear… and living in fear brings out the worst in everyone. We will live for ourselves. We will join the maddening crowds, hoarding groceries we don’t need, refusing to change our habits or be inconvenienced, fighting to survive, becoming overwhelmed.
我們所有人都擔心。如果你沒有一個盼亡能超越那墳墓，那麼擔心會成為恐懼…生活在恐懼中會帶出人最差的一面…我們會為自己而活。我們會加入瘋狂的人群中去搶購，囤積一些不需要的雜貨，拒絕改變習慣或給自己帶來不便，都會為生存而掙扎，變得不知所措。
All of us are anxious, but if you do have hope that last beyond the grave – you will look beyond yourself, and at this time live in love. In the Bible faith, hope and love go together. If you have faith in Jesus, you have the hope of life, so you live in love. You live wanting the best for others.
我們所有人都擔心，但如果你有超越墳墓的盼望…你將會超越你自己，你將活在愛的裏面。在聖經裏面，信，望，愛是連在一起的。如果你相信耶穌，你就會有生命的盼望，那麼你就活在愛中。你過著一個最好不過的生活。
Friends, this week, we are the ones who;
朋友們， 這一週讓我們都；
- check in on the neighbours
- 關心一下我們的鄰居
- make a list of all the elderly or vulnerable people in our lives and make sure we call them
- 寫下我們認識的所有的老年人或弱勢社群的人，確保我們會打電話問候他們一下
- offer to get groceries for others
- 為有需要的人到超級市場購買他們所需要的
- deliver food to those in isolation
- 為需要隔離的朋友送食物
- look for opportunities to keep the spirits of others up
- 尋找機會鼓勵別人
- who look for ways of making sure we don’t leave the lonely behind
- 想辦法讓孤單的人沒有感到被遺忘
- who point beyond the crisis to continue to find truth and beauty – who point to the hope of heaven – in Jesus
- 在危機和疫情之中可以找到真理和美好…在當中指出天堂的盼望…就是在耶穌裏
That’s what it will look like for people of faith and hope, to live in love this week.
這就是有信心和盼望的人如何活在愛中的一週。
Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out! And the dead man walked out”
他大聲呼叫說：「拉撒路，出來！」
25 Jesus said… , “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
耶穌…說：「復活在我，生命也在我。信我的人雖然死了，也必復活； 26凡活著信我的人必永遠不死。你信這話嗎？」

其实瘟疫和病毒常常都会有。但现在就像是同时爆发了鼠疫和埃博拉病毒…那些事情根本从未根除…它们只好像离我们很远。我们知道它们是甚么…但就是因离我们很远，我们从来没有感觉到它们的威力。
But Covid-19 is here amongst us… it is very close to home… this is not some abstract reality that we might choose to think about or not. We can’t escape it.
但是Covid-19就在我们中间…它跟我们很近…这不是我们可以选择去思考与否的的抽象问题。现在是我们都不能逃避的事情。
That’s the thing about death and the fear of death – it is always there… but from time to time it draws close and it is real and visceral and raw and overwhelming when it comes close…
这就是关于死亡和对死亡的恐惧…这些东西一直都在…但是它有时会跟我们很接近，它接近时都是真而实在的，这些真实接近的感觉令人不知所措。
And in the middle of all this, where is God?
在这一切当中， 神在哪里呢？
Where is God? Where is this all powerful, all loving God – while the world is scared and dying?

If he was here, surely he wouldn’t let this go on.

If only he was here… wouldn’t things be different?

So what? 那又怎样
If only he was here. That’s just what Martha and Mary said when their brother Lazarus died. When tragedy struck in the little backwater village of Bethany, 3ks outside of Jerusalem, 2000 years ago… that’s just what they said, only they were talking to Jesus.
假如祂在这里。这就是和马大和马里亚在她们的弟弟拉撒路死后所说的话。在两千多年以前，这悲剧发生在一个比较落后的叫伯大尼的村庄， 距离耶路撒冷三公里…那时她们就是这么说的，只是她们真的是跟耶稣在对话。

Lazarus is dead… and in the middle of the grief & pain… where was Jesus?

- … Lazarus’ sisters Martha & Mary (21 & 32) “Lord if you had been here my brother would not have died”

- … and the crowd (37), this bloke “who opened the eyes of the blind – couldn’t he have kept this man from dying”

Where was Jesus? 耶稣在哪里？
He was 4 days too late. Lazarus’ body is already rotting and smelling.
祂来晚了4天。拉撒路的身体已经腐烂和发臭了。
And Jesus was 4 days too late.
而耶稣就是来晚了四天
If only Jesus was here – he could’ve kept Lazarus alive… he could’ve spared us this grief and heart-ache…
如果耶稣在这里，他本可以让拉撒路活着…他本可以让我们免于这种悲痛和心痛…
So why wasn’t he there? How did it come to this, that Jesus’ friend, Lazarus was dead?
那他为什么不在呢？是怎么变成这样的？ 那个耶稣的朋友拉撒路为甚么会死了呢？
What’s the point? 重点是什么？
As we dig into the background of this story, we realise that Jesus was (10:40) back across the other side of the Jordan river, about 150ks, or 4 days walk away Bethany which was right next door to Jerusalem.
当我们深入探讨这个故事的背景时，我们发现耶稣（10:40）若要回到约旦河的另一边，所需大约150 公里的路程 ，或要步行4天才可到达耶路撒冷隔壁的伯大尼。
So a messenger gets to Jesus with the news that Lazarus is sick… but by the time Jesus’ starts walking back he’s already dead.
因此当使者把拉撒路生病的消息告诉耶稣的时候，就算耶稣当时马上回去，他也已经死了。
What seems to make it worse, is that Jesus didn’t go back straight away. He waited another two days. Now to be clear, even if Jesus had left straight away, Lazarus would’ve still been dead two days before he got there, so delaying wouldn’t have made any difference to that.
似乎更糟的，是耶稣没有马上回去。他等了两天。现在清楚了，即使耶稣马上回去，拉撒路在耶稣到达那里的前两天仍然会死，所以耶稣延迟回去也不会有甚么分别。
Why delay? 为什么延迟呢？
But, why does Jesus delay? We could guess.
但是，为什么耶稣会延迟呢？ 我们可以猜测一下。
The last time he was around Jerusalem a crowd wanted to stone him to death… that would make me slow down and think for a bit before rushing back. Have a look at verse 8 or 16, that is absolutely what was on the minds of the disciples – going back anywhere near Jerusalem wouldn’t just be risking Jesus’ life but theirs too.
他上一次在耶路撒冷附近时，有一群人拿石头打祂，想把他杀死…现在让我们说下去之前，慢慢回想一下。看看第8或16节，这绝对是门徒们的想法…如果他们回到耶路撒冷附近的任何地方，不仅会对耶稣的生命有危险，而且对门徒的生命都会有危险。
God’s revelation will be clearer 神的启示会更清楚
But that’s not the reason Jesus delays. He tells them the reason. The extra two days will mean that what happens next will be even clearer. In verse 4 it will make the glory or revelation of God’s glory in Jesus even clearer – there will now be no mistaking what happens, so that in verse 15, those following Jesus would believe in him.
但这不是耶稣延迟的原因。祂告诉门徒延迟的原因。额外的两天意味着接下来发生的事情将更加清晰。在第4节中提到，这事情将使神在耶稣里的荣耀或启示更加清晰…现在将不会发生任何错误，所以在第15节中说，好叫跟随耶稣的人都会相信他。
Now, spoiler alert, this day is going to turn out pretty well for Lazarus… and it is going to turn out pretty well for Mary and Martha and for everyone who was grieving as well… but not just, and even not mostly for the reasons they thought.

That you might believe 你可能会相信
Jesus explains that everything that happens here is for

- In verse 15, the benefit of the disciples, that they might believe,
- and in verse 42 it is for the benefit of the people standing around, that they might believe.
- And John (20:31) told us that he picked this as one of the few things he would write down, so that anyone who read it “might also believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you might have life in his name.”

It is all about life. This bit of history was written down, not just to tell you about some bloke 2000 years ago who was brought back to life… but so that you might have life.

Why the two day wait? To make it clearer.
为什么要等两天呢？让我们看清一下。
By the time Jesus got to the tomb, there could be no doubt.

Jews of the day believed that a person’s spirit might hover around the body for up to three days after death… but things happen to a body after four days. Without going into the details… obvious things… smelly things happen after four days, and nobody can be in any doubt at all that he’d just slowed his heartrate down and controlled his breathing or something.
当时的犹太人相信一个人的灵魂在死亡后三天内仍会徘徊在身体的周围…但是第四天之后身体就会发生变化。就算不用详细描述…明显地…四天之后尸体会发臭，没有人会认为他只是放慢了心跳和控制了呼吸等等。
And nobody can be in any doubt at all, that when he does come back to life, it is only God who could’ve done that – Jesus’ claims to be the Messiah, the Son of God must be true.
同时，没有人会怀疑只有神才能让他复活…耶稣自称是弥赛亚，是上帝的儿子，此话必定是真实的。
And when Martha hears Jesus is on the way and runs out to meet him… she actually already knows it. In fact, her understanding of life and death and who Jesus is, was all squared away before he got there.

Do you hear, her understanding… her belief was all in place before Jesus did anything else? She is still grieving… still in pain… but she believes, and she is even sure of life after death herself.

She seems to immediately get what Jesus said… even if someone like me takes a while to catch on. Did you catch it?

The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.

The believer lives – I can get that, but does the believer die… or never die?

This is really important to get straight if you want to understand what God does and does not promise you in the face of Coronavirus, or any other threat – and there have been some pretty stupid claims made by some Christians in the media over the last week or so about what God has promised them.
你要很清楚对于你在面对冠状病毒时，神的响应和不回应，又或是其他的威胁…在过去的一周，一些基督徒在媒体上发表了一些相当愚蠢的说法，称上帝应许了他们。
Jesus drops one of his famous “I am” statements here. “I am the Resurrection and the Life.”
耶稣在这里作出祂著名的「我是」陈述。「复活在我，生命也在我。」
And while that is one statement… it’s actually about two different things. Resurrection and Life naturally go together, but they are not the same thing.
虽然这是一个陈述，它实际上是两个不同的东西。复活和生命好像自然地走在一起，但它们其实不是同一回事。
That Jesus is the resurrection, means that whoever believes in him will live, even though they die. The resurrection means that there will be life beyond death, and Jesus is saying here that if you believe him, if you trust him, you will have that future resurrection – and live.
复活在我（我是复活）…凡活着信我的人必永远不死。复活的意思是人在死亡之后还会有生命。耶稣在这里说明，如果你相信祂，你在将来会有复活， 还有永生。
That Jesus is the Life, means that whoever lives as a believer in him, will never die. That is, that the moment you become a believer in Jesus, you have a new life… and new kind of life… eternal life through your trust in Jesus… and that even death will not snuff out this life.
生命也在我（我是生命）…意思是凡活着信祂的人，比永远不死。就是说，就在你相信耶稣的那一刻，你已经有新的生命， 一个全新的生命。靠着相信耶稣你可以有永生，甚至死亡也不能扼杀这个生命。
So, there is no great promise that if you trust in Jesus you won’t die physically. Statistically Christians die at the same rate as everyone else – 100%.
因此，耶稣没有应许信祂的人不会免去肉体的死。从统计学上来说，基督徒与非基督徒的死亡率百分之一百是一样的。
But, Jesus is the resurrection and the life.
但是，耶稣是复活与生命。
- Through trusting in him we can know that we will be raised after death, to live beyond the grave.

- Through trusting in him, we get to begin a new life now, that is truly living… and that even death can’t stop.

Yes… but… 是的…但是
I know you might be thinking to yourself right now… well yes, that all sounds well and good to you – but how do you know that it’s not just wishful thinking?

Or you might be thinking to yourself that’s all pie in the sky when you die stuff – doesn’t Jesus care about us here and now?

And that’s why what happens next is so important.
这就是为什么接下来发生的事情会如此重要。
Jesus comes alongside Mary and the other mourners and they go to the tomb.

Jesus, was deeply moved and troubled… and he wept. And it would be easy to think that what was going on inside him, and his weeping was just the same as those around him.
耶稣心里悲叹，又甚忧愁…之后，耶稣哭了。其实很容易想到他内心正在想甚么，他哭泣的原因应该与他周围的人一样。
But Jesus’ grief is different… and is for different reasons.
但是耶稣的悲伤是不同的…并且出于不同的原因。
He’d already known for at least 6 days that he was going to bring Lazarus back to life – and that happy moment has almost arrived.
他至少六天前已经知道要让拉撒路复活了…而那个快乐的时刻快到了。
But his deep movement in the spirit, is actually more like anger… rage… frustration… grief, not at a physical death which was about to be reversed… but at the state of the world… and the unbelief all around him.
但是祂此刻灵性上深深被打动的，更实际是愤怒…发怒…懊恼…沮丧…悲伤，不是因为祂即将会将肉体的死亡逆转，而是对于整个世界的状态…和周围不相信祂的人。
He weeps, here, like he will again shortly as he looks over the city of Jerusalem… at the sight of a broken world. A world where sickness, and death, and grief, and hope-lessness, … and greed, and selfishness, and hoarding toilet paper, and faithlessness are all around and in the air we breathe.
耶稣哭了，在此，就像祂即将看到耶路撒冷…看到破碎的世界。一个疾病，死亡，悲伤，绝望的世界…人们的贪婪和自私，就像现在的人囤积厕纸，没有信心的充斥在我们所呼吸的空气中。
And in that moment,

- surrounded by the grief of those who lived as if there was no hope – although he had come to bring that hope himself –

- He, the Resurrection and the Life, who had been driven out of the city by an angry mob the last time he was here and would be finally arrested and executed just a week or so later…

In that moment, outrage at sin and death and rejection welled up inside of him and grieved him to the core.

And finally they roll the stone away… and Jesus shouts “Lazarus, come out!”
最后他们把石头挪开…耶稣大声呼叫说：「拉撒路，出来！」
And the dead man walked out… alive!
那死了的人就出来了…他是活着的的出来！！！
And that’s how we know that this is not just wishful thinking… and that’s how we know that Jesus cares so much more deeply for us, than we know.
这就让我们知道这不是我们不切实际的想法，这也让我们知道耶稣是多么的关心我们的需要，祂知道我们的需要比我们自己知道的更多和更深。
What’s next 下一步应该怎样呢？
So, what do you do with all that?

Remember that although this was obviously a pretty good day for Lazarus, Jesus said that it actually all happened for the benefit of those who saw and heard these things – so that they might believe in him and have life.
请记得，尽管对于拉撒路来说这显然是很好的一天，耶稣说，这一切实际上都是为了那些看到和听到这些事情的人而做的…这样他们才能相信祂并得着生命。
And John wrote all this down, for the benefit of those who would read and hear, that they might believe and have life in Jesus’ name.

Do you believe in Jesus? Do you trust him?

We, all of us, are dead in our rebellion against God – but listen up – Jesus is the one who calls out – and dead people stand up and live. Are you ready to stand up and live? Don’t trust me. Trust him. Trust Jesus, and live.
我们所有人都要死， 因为我们都背叛了神。但请听清楚，耶稣是那位作呼召的，叫死人起来并活着。你预备好起来并活着了吗？不要相信我。相信祂。相信耶稣，并活过来。
If you do believe, you do trust Jesus, you need to remember that Jesus is the Resurrection – and whatever else changes or happens in the weeks ahead, you can be sure that you will be raised to life after death yourself.

You need to remember that Jesus is the Life – and that your new life in him started the moment you trusted, and will never end. You’ll have the best that this life has to offer – life to the full – but your life in him is not under threat by Coronavirus or anything else. Rest confident in Him.
你也要记得耶稣就是生命…你新生命的开始就在于相信祂的那一刻，直到永远也不会结束。你将会有这一生中最好的机会…有圆满的人生…但你在祂里面的人生并不受到冠状病毒或其他任何的威胁。信心满满的在祂里面休息。
The closing 总结
Friends, I know we are living in anxious times, and I fully expect that things are going to get worse before they get better… and that many of us will suffer enormous grief… and some of us will face the reality of death ourselves.
朋友们，我知道我们生活在焦虑的时代，我完全估计得到事情会在变好之前会变得更糟…而且我们当中有些人将遭受巨大的悲伤…我们当中有些人亦可能要面对死亡的现实。
But we are not hope-less.

And having hope makes all the difference.

All of us are anxious. If you don’t have a hope that lasts beyond the grave – that anxiety will become fear… and living in fear brings out the worst in everyone. We will live for ourselves. We will join the maddening crowds, hoarding groceries we don’t need, refusing to change our habits or be inconvenienced, fighting to survive, becoming overwhelmed.

All of us are anxious, but if you do have hope that last beyond the grave – you will look beyond yourself, and at this time live in love. In the Bible faith, hope and love go together. If you have faith in Jesus, you have the hope of life, so you live in love. You live wanting the best for others.

- who point beyond the crisis to continue to find truth and beauty – who point to the hope of heaven – in Jesus

That’s what it will look like for people of faith and hope, to live in love this week.

Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out! And the dead man walked out”

25 Jesus said… , “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”
40 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”
41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”
43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.
Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”

1有一個患病的人，名叫拉撒路，住在伯大尼，就是馬利亞和她姐姐馬大的村莊。 2這馬利亞就是那用香膏抹主，又用頭髮擦他腳的；患病的拉撒路是她的弟弟。 3姊妹兩個就打發人去見耶穌，說：「主啊，你所愛的人病了。」 4耶穌聽見後卻說：「這病不至於死，而是為了上帝的榮耀，為要使上帝的兒子藉此得榮耀。」 5耶穌素來愛馬大和她妹妹，以及拉撒路。 6他聽見拉撒路病了，仍在原地住了兩天， 7然後對門徒說：「我們再到猶太去吧！」 8門徒對他說：「拉比，猶太人近來要拿石頭打你，你還再到那裏去嗎？」 9耶穌回答：「白天不是有十二小時嗎？人若在白天行走，就不致跌倒，因為他看見這世上的光。 10人若在黑夜行走，就會跌倒，因為他沒有光。」 11耶穌說了這些話，隨後對他們說：「我們的朋友拉撒路睡了，我去叫醒他。」 12門徒就說：「主啊，他若睡了，就會好的。」 13耶穌說這話是指拉撒路死了，他們卻以為他是指通常的睡眠。 14於是耶穌就明白地告訴他們：「拉撒路死了。 15為了你們的緣故，我不在那裏反而歡喜，為要使你們信。現在我們到他那裏去吧。」 16於是那稱為低土馬的多馬對其他的門徒說：「我們也去和他同死吧！」
17耶穌到了，知道拉撒路在墳墓裏已經四天了。 18伯大尼離耶路撒冷不遠，約有六里路。 19有好些猶太人來看馬大和馬利亞，要為她們弟弟的緣故安慰她們。 20馬大聽見耶穌來了，就出去迎接他；馬利亞卻仍然坐在家裏。 21馬大對耶穌說：「主啊，你若早在這裏，我弟弟就不會死了。 22我也知道，即使現在，你無論向上帝求甚麼，上帝也必賜給你。」 23耶穌對她說：「你弟弟會復活的。」 24馬大對他說：「我知道在末日復活的時候，他會復活。」 25耶穌對她說：「復活在我，生命也在我。信我的人雖然死了，也必復活； 26凡活著信我的人必永遠不死。你信這話嗎？」 27馬大對他說：「主啊，是的。我信你是基督，是上帝的兒子，就是那要臨到世界的。」
28 馬大說了這話就回去，叫她妹妹馬利亞，私下說：「老師來了，他在叫你。」 29馬利亞聽見了，急忙起來，到耶穌那裏去。 30那時，耶穌還沒有進村子，仍在馬大迎接他的地方。 31那些同馬利亞在家裏安慰她的猶太人，見她急忙起來，出去，就跟著她，以為她要往墳墓那裏去哭。 32馬利亞到了耶穌那裏，看見他，就俯伏在他腳前，對他說：「主啊，你若早在這裏，我弟弟就不會死了。」 33耶穌看見她哭，並看見與她同來的猶太人也哭，就心裏悲嘆，又甚憂愁， 34就說：「你們把他安放在哪裏？」他們對他說：「主啊，請你來看。」 35耶穌哭了。 36猶太人就說：「你看，他多麼愛他！」 37其中有人說：「他既然開了盲人的眼睛，難道不能叫這人不死嗎？」
38耶穌又心裏悲嘆，來到墳墓前。那墳墓是個穴，有一塊石頭擋著。 39耶穌說：「把石頭挪開！」那死者的姐姐馬大對他說：「主啊，他現在必定臭了，因為他已經死了四天了。」 40耶穌對她說：「我不是對你說過，你若信就必看見上帝的榮耀嗎？」 41於是他們把石頭挪開。耶穌舉目望天，說：「父啊，我感謝你，因為你已經聽了我。 42我知道你常常聽我，但我說這話是為了周圍站著的眾人，要使他們信是你差了我來的。」 43說了這些話，他大聲呼叫說：「拉撒路，出來！」 44那死了的人就出來了，手腳都裹著布，臉上包著頭巾。耶穌對他們說：「解開他，讓他走！」
