Stu was brought up going to church in South Sydney. Although he was baptised as a baby and then confirmed as a teenager, Stu remembers truly asking for forgiveness from God in his mid to late 20s. Before coming to College, Stu was self-employed, worked for an electronic security company, and then served as the president of Ambassadors Christian Motorcycle Club Sydney. Moore was Stu’s first experience of university when he came at the age of 40.
“Lectures at Moore usually left me needing to push my brain back into my ears, after processing the information. Not having previous exposure to University level, it was hard work. I was spiritually stretched, challenged, and educated well in theology. I was taught to slow down, to read the bible carefully and ask questions to get the most out of God’s word.”
After Moore, Stu held a handful of prison chaplaincy positions, including at Long Bay and Parramatta correctional centres. He now lives and works in South West Sydney with Break the Cycle as a community chaplain, focusing on supporting the disadvantaged, some of whom have spent time in prison.
